All That Remains Overcome Rushed Recording

Springfield, Mass. rockers All That Remains will add to their relentless tour schedule with a series of Canadian dates beginning this week with In Flames, Gojira and 36 Crazyfists.

"We've got to go to Toronto first on Wednesday to film at MTV and then we have Montreal on Thursday and Friday in Toronto," says vocalist Phil Labonte.

"I love Canada so much. The shows are going to be so good they’re going to be ridiculous, so come out and knock your friends around."

All That Remains are supporting their Prosthetic Records album, Overcome, which debuted at #16 on the U.S. sales chart after its release in September. Labonte admits he was pretty shocked to see such a big sales figure so early, especially considering that he believes Overcome isn't as good as it could have been.

"When you've got a record that does well and continues to do well two years after you've released it, everyone starts worrying about time frame and the label starts worrying about making sure you have the right delivery," he explains. "We were really, really rushed.

"We had about four months to write and record Overcome, which is not long at all. It was really tight scheduling and we were really under the gun.

"I think the record is astounding considering the amount of time we had, and I feel like if we had more time, we could have fine-tuned things. There are still some things I wish we could have done better or we had more time to do, but all things considered, I think we did an amazing job with the record. And if it sounds like I'm tooting my own horn, whatever, I don’t care."

Labonte has every right to toot away. With Overcome being the most successful album of the band's career, they’ve achieved something that happens very rarely in metal: mainstream acceptance.
