Turn Me Loose '09 - Show 110 UP NOW!

Posted by ToxicDoom | Wednesday, December 31, 2008 | ,

Wow guys - an hour and a half to go on my end until '09 gets here. I can't believe it still...enough so that i had to take a step back when i woke up today and realize it...and, it hit me. Time for to get Sappy on ya guys now. Seeing as how i don't seem to do it enough.

The goals for this podcast for the past 2 years have always included getting bigger and better than ever. I've had a few...setbacks...that didn't really go my way. Then again, what can go right ALL the time, right? But, looking back on it, i begin to wonder if everything happens for a reason. I'd like to hope so.

Most of the time this year, things did go right - and, according to "plan". I've accomplished about 60% of what i wanted to have done to this podcast this year. I wanted to get more "Out There" - and, so far, that's been working....to a point. I've managed to pick up more listeners, and more subscribers...but, to me, it doesn't seem like "enough"

I've also been trying to extend a welcome hand to Record Labels - but, not all wanna work with me. I could prob'ly come up with a few reasons as to why. But, many independent labels in Canada are working with me, and that's all good - If they keep sending me stuff! I also managed to pick out Universal Media Group Canada along the way. Which shocked the hell out of me lol. Sure, i Lost Warner Music Canada - but, ya can't win 'em all. And, i have picked up 1 of the BEST Labels I could dream of in working with Jesse and the entire lineup over at KillBeat Music

My eyes have been opened to a bunch of new music this year - and, i know that sometimes my podcast isn't always "On Schedule" - but, you guys have stuck behind me all along the way.

Bandwise, i have to Thank these bands and artists who support me fully! I hope i don't forget anyone!

  • Crystal Sunshine
  • Hayden
  • FemBots
  • Hospital Bombers
  • Basia Bulat
  • Dyonisis
  • Aaron Lines
  • Nightwish
  • Tarja Turunen
  • Senses Fail
  • Nickelback
  • Adam Gregory
  • Tara Oram
  • ....and tons TONS more that are on the podcast...these are just some of the bigger supporters!
Labels - Where would i be without you

  • Jesse @ KillBeat Music: What can i say! Thanks for getting me hooked on the bands you promote. If i'm not mistaken, it all started with a band by the name of...FemBots :D
  • RockStar Music Company: Amber, if it wasn't for finding you guys on a total fluke, i don't think i would've got hooked on Elise Estrada! I'm still waiting for that CD in the mail! lol
  • Universal Music Canada: Wow, what can i say? You guys are AMAZING! Thank you for giving the podcast a chance to promote the Canadian Bands you guys represent, as well as the independent labels under you (Hardwood Records and Hayden, i'm talkin' about you!)
These are just a sample! If i forgot anyone - i'm sorry! But, to each and everyone i forgot, i owe ya just as much thanks and support for the growth of the podcast after the comeback 3 months ago!

The plans for next year ....yes, i'm thinking that far ahead, cause, i WILL be here! I wanna find a way to work with the rest of the major labels up here in Canada that represent Canadian artists. As well as the ability to work with more bands and artists that are looking for another medium to get their music out there, and heard by ALL!

Oh yea - and, episode 110 is NOW UP! This is my new year's eve show - and, what perfect timing! So, tune in, rock out with your....wait...i won't go there :D But, it's truly fitting for tonight! Let me know what ya think of the new show, and how everything "melds" with each other!

Podcast Feed Back Online!

Posted by ToxicDoom | Friday, December 26, 2008 |

It just occurred to me today, after some emails from people, that the new episode of the podcast wasn't able to be heard. You quite possibly got an error when trying to download, or listen to episode 109. The problem has been resolved, and was just an issue with the naming of the file (Stupid me lol)

You can now listen to the new episodes, as well as the others that were not affected! I'm sorry about that issue guys, and it will not happen again....hopefully :)

Taking a LEAK! New CDs For the 16th!

Posted by ToxicDoom | Sunday, December 14, 2008 |

BAD CALVIN!! Pissing on my words! No, i'm not really posting this from my bathroom! Though...well, don't even start giving me ideas, or, i'll have a laptop with an ethernet line running to the bathroom! Talk about freakin' ya out then oO

NO! The reason for the name is because new albums are dropping this Tuesday (The 16th) And thanks to all the labels that have helped keep me going! Granted, there's a few now that i'll move over to the podcast - but, today, i have 3 kick ass releases from new bands droppin' tunes this week!

So, strap yourself in - and, please, tell calvin that if his piss extends over to the cover art of the CD's, i'll kill him! Don't worry, i have Hobbes hostage! lol.

The first CD i'm gonna cover this week is the brand new release from The All-American Rejects with their 3rd studio effort, When The World Comes Down. Perfect title i think - it suits how the band has gone in direction again. They have NOT lost their sound...they've however built on it. It's obvious in the song "Another Heart Calls" - the female vocal (Lead from The Pierces) adds so much depth and vocal arrangement. The choir in the background isn't really annoying either - it adds that KA-BOOM! sound to the song.

Other heavy hitters on this CD include the 2nd single "Mona Lisa", "Real World", and the opening track, "I Wanna"

What's unique about this CD is that the ballads aren't just ballads anymore. They mash 'em up! "The Wind Blows" is just an example of this. It's kinda reminiscent of something that Phil Collins would throw together - mixed with AAR's Vocals, and riffs. Here is an excerpt from the lyrics "I’ve got to breathe | You can’t take that from me | Cause it’s all that you left that’s mine | You had to leave | And that’s all I can see | But you told me your love was blind" Kinda makes one open up one's eyes, right? This has gotta be my favourite track outta the 12 of them so far. I can relate to it...and, it does put me in that "Calm and relaxed" state of mind.

This CD gets a 5 out of 5! It's just as good as their sophmore release, Move Along - if not better! It's completely mind blowing on how they've added the depth to their music, and made it even more mind-blowingly catchy! You can buy the CD by Clicking Here

Next up on the agenda, Fall Out Boy's new CD, Folie à Deux. I read up on what the name meant from Wikipedia - and, the name actually comes from a Psychotic disorder the french call "Folie a Deux", which translates into "a madness shared by two" - and, yes, it's a french term. The album cover art is unique too. And, those thanks go to Luke Chueh.

This CD was Originally supposed to be released the same day as the elections being held in the U.S.A. But, in a later statement from the band, they had said (And i quote)

"Six months ago we thought it would be a fun idea to release our album on election day but this is not the election to be cute. We felt as though rather than making a commentary we were only riding the wave of the election. This seemed less and less like what we intended to do and more of a gimmick. It is now in the hands of our label to give us a new release date. It is our intent to get our record out this year and as soon as possible -- as we made sure to have it done in time for its original release"

Now, onto covering the album a little in detail. I gave this a listen when i ripped it tonight - and, it's an amazing CD! They've collaborated with quite a few names (To say the least), and have ended up with another album to fully be proud of - and, let's not forget the fans! Collaborations include tracks with Lil Wayne, Pharrell, Panic at the Disco and Debbie Harry from Blondie.

Whoa...did i just see Lil Wayne and Pharrell in the mix? Holy shit - I DID! I DID! I can hear the fans screaming "FUCKKKKKK!!!" right now.

I'm here to say - Calm Down. Have some Dip.

Right from the opening track "Disloyal Order Of Water Buffaloes", to the second song, "I Don't Care" - you can tell it's gonna be a catchy CD. Very much Fall out Boy's Sound, mixed with a little bit of the Old (Think: Riffs sounding very much from This ain't a scene, it's an arms race and Thnks for the Mmrs) - still just that catchy, and hooky!

Ya know, with as many collab's as they had on here - it doesn't really sneak through much. I'd think a little bit of Panic would come through - but, FOB's sound is ....well, they've always had a unique sound to them, and i'm glad they kept it - but, up'd it a little bit!

We'll move on to the collaboration tracks now, shall we? "What A Catch, Donnie" Showcases the band in Elvis Costello's environment, and vice versa. It's hard, it's soft - it's ...ElFall lol. Brendan Urie, Gabe Saporta, Travis McCoy, Doug Neumann, Alex DeLeon and William Beckett use their guest spots all on this song. And, it's weird. It's been awhile since i've seen all the people take a turn singing, and then burst into chorus, and go back at it again. It's hard to point out where some of them are, and who's singing...awesome song though!

If ya like Collaborations, there's 2 more songs to point out, so, let's get right to those!

"Tiffany Blews" - well, it's not quite so freakin' hard to point out Lil Wayne's voice lol. This is a nice little funky number. Reminds me of something from the Commodores, mixed with some "emo" riffs and hooks. "Oh, baby your a classic | like a little black dress | you're a faded moon | stuck on a little hot mess" I Love Lil Wayne in this song! His smokey voice and his voice effects he does on the microphone fit this song, and the jist of this song! I can almost bet this'll be another single (After the 2nd one they have planned, that is)

"Give me a pen, Call me Mr. Benzedrine, But don’t let the doctor in" basically sums up "20 Dollar Nose Bleed" - talk about addict! Brendon Urie also appears in this song. It's not that bad of a song. A little catchy - but, not one of the best tracks on the album, that's for sure. This has shades of something off of the "From Under The Cork Tree" - but, with a little bit of a jazzy feeling added to it. Along with...i dunno....15 seconds of just non-sense rambling...which leads into ....

....The final song of the album, and appropriately, the song Debbie Harry herself is in, "West Coast Smoker" - HEY! What do ya know! An album spoke to me! Smoke sounds good! I've never been blessed to read into songs, or, find the deeper meaning - unless it's a sap story, or a song with so much anger in it that it feels like my head will blow lol. But, that's not the case with this song. We all know the kinda sound that Deb brings into the mix - and, it doesn't disappoint. Getting hard towards the end of a song is nice - also, pausing for a second after a riff...then, singing again - way to lead audiences on, and leave 'em drooling for more! And, how it ended was kinda...sad lol.

This album far exceeded my expectations. I thought they couldn't top "Infinity on high" - and, i was sorta right. But, it's not bad for a 5th studio album from these guys! It just goes to show that they can still rock it - even if they have to bring in people to do Collaborations with - it just adds more depth to it. Granted, i couldn't see 40+ year olds rockin' out to this kinda stuff - but, their Kids will - and, they'll lap it up!

Prove me wrong, people....prove me wrong lol.

Overall - this CD is a 4 Star rating for me in iTunes - that's right! That's my rating system! It has a few letdowns on the CD - but, the eagerly anticipated stuff is just amazing! Vocals weren't off - and the album has a nice pace to it with how they intend ya to listen to it!

You can pick up the CD by Clicking Here

The last CD to go on and on about is Saliva's new one, Cinco Diablo. I'll be winging this one "On-The-Go", as this will be the first time i'm listening to it! WHEEE!! lol. This oughts to be fun! Oh, for anybody wanting to know if the album rocks (And, ya bastards don't take my word for what i'm gonna say :P) The whole album is being streamed on their myspace page. So, go find 'em ya lazy bastards, cause, i'm not providing a link! ha ha!

Well - Cinco. Why, Cinco? Doesn't that mean 5? Cause, ummm....Saliva, if you do your count right, this is album #6. Unless you don't count your Self-titled, then, ok...5 it is! And, if ya guys need a translation, loosely, the album means "Devil 5" or, "5 Devils" - whichever ya chose!

Family Reunion - The first track, and ironically, the first single from the album. I Can see why! It's hard hitting - and, sounds familiar. I think i heard these chords in "Click Click Boom!" and the whole "Superstar" line of songs. It's almost reminiscent of those 2. Just replace some words, and throw in Family Reunion - and you're set! Not bad to announce that they're back again - for the 2nd time in 2 years. Josey is a master, so, i'll let this song slide. I have no complaints about it - other than the fact that it just sounds so familar. Hopefully we'll move into some less than ordinary tracks!

Ohhhh....here we go! My Own Worst Enemy! Kicks ass too! I hope they don't all release single's in order, cause i can see this one being a single. It's pretty self-explanatory here. He's his own worst enemy, he's sold his soul - kinda the stuff talked about on "Always" - but, with that small little twist. The chords, riffs and drums are really unique sounding - they haven't just mangled it and put it back together, or puked another version of a different song out. The solo's are short - but, very awesome and addictive! Great headbanger song - and, i got the hair for it!

Let's skip a few tracks now - otherwise, all these are gonna be the same! It's nice to see influences coming to show again though. Something about the album so far screams Adema a little bit - mixed with some Ozzy and Zakk Wilde. Been awhile since i've heard any Zakk - i might have to go find him again later.

Wow - did i just get off topic? lol. Hey now! Don't blame me - i'm listening to the album in full - cause, that's what i do. I'm still on track 3 "Best Of Me" - they're setting a tone for this record, with how it's gonna be, and they're doin' a helluva job. So far, by my standards, it's just...Amazing! So, bare with me guys! Think of this as a "Live CD listening Party" - only ya can't hear anything unless ya have it to! :)

Whoa - ok, Track 4 it is. "How Could You?" - you know how long i've been waiting to hear an acosutic guitar open up a song for Saliva? Let's just say - it's been awhile! "How Could you cheat on me? Then turn your back on me?" You Cheating whore! lol. *cough cough* - this could be on my repeat for awhile. It's hook is right there - it's catchy, and it's fuckin' HARD! This is another perfect example of one of the best breakup songs - brought to you by Saliva. Saliva's got a long list of 'em, including "Always" and "Rest In Pieces" - this is my new fave! Once you get your hands on this CD - take it, put track 4 on, and blast it at all the cheating whore's in your life! lol.

Hunt You Down is the best follow up! "I'm gonna STOMP YA INTO THE GROUND! I'm BETTER THAN YOU!" Well, i guess if you're gonna blast track 4, blast track 5 as well! Make it a follow-up oO. You could also use this in like, Halo 3 or something blasting those fucks from your screen! Oh, what glory that'd bring! If this doesn't make ya wanna hunt something down - nothing will!

Not that i'm promoting any of this stuff. Keep it legal is what i say ;)

Ok - let's focus on the last songs now - keep this short. Not like i wanna do this ALL night long lol.

Forever & A Day - track 7 - When it kicked in there, for a moment, it sounded like they've been following State of Shock. It's another one of those depressing songs, hidden amongst a nice drum beat - and, hard guitar chords. Wait - there's a piano in there? Wow...nicely hidden guys! "Love is all that matters anyway....Forever & A Day" - ain't that the damn truth! Ya know, thinking about this reminds me of those 80's hair bands - like, Guns N' Roses or Def Leppard (not so much DL, but, still - just the riffs and stuff - i said a LITTLE lol). Not a bad song! Put me in a semi-lucid, semi-calmed down state.

Southern Girls - Track 9 - I'm hoping by the name, i can expect to hear some of their southern rock that they barely ever really do. I mean, they are from Tennessee, so, let's see. Wow - actually, YES IT IS! Way to Go you guys on breaking from the habit! This would be the best summer anthem for the Hard rockers - i don't wanna say Metal-lers lol (is it just me, or am i making up new words as i go along?) With this song - the southern rock is there, but, it's a little hidden between the hard rock riffs...but, if ya can pay attention, and not get A.D.D., you can hear it! I can see the video for this song now. Southern Blondes - in Daisy Dukes....and, wrestling in the mud to this song! Now there's a way to grab attention!

To wrap up the 10 track album, So Long finishes up the album. It's kinda...coldplay-ish with the lyrics, and the piano at the start of the song. Reminds me of Parachutes, or, Yellow. And, for them to incorporate a sound of something Coldplay did on Viva La Vida - it's...weird. A good weird. It's very eclectic, and has lyrics with a deep meaning. It's like he's saying goodbye to a dear friend, or a girlfriend, and he doesn't know when they'll see each other again, but, somewhere deep in the back of his mind, he knows they will. Kind of a good way to finish a CD though. Not knowing when things will end - and, how things will change.

Kind of poetic if ya think about it. This CD is just brilliant! Every CD they've put out has been amazing to say the least! If you guys didn't like Blood Stained Love Story in 2007, you'll love this release! This is by far one of the best CD's since Back Into Your System was released in 2002. This CD got a 5 star rating, and so did every single song on the CD!

You can buy the album by Clicking Here

Well - those are my top 3 releases for CD's that are coming out This Tuesday - December 16, 2008. Hopefully next week is as good!

And, let me know what ya thought about this "Feature" - it's kind of a new way of doing things for me! I've never "Live blogged" before (Even though, you'll see it as one big post, and didn't go live lol) - just let me know how i did!

Tox Returns - and Love for the Zune and Xbox?

Posted by ToxicDoom | Monday, December 08, 2008 |

w00t! Toxic's Back - and, better than ever! Well - minus a damn headset...again. But, i'm not putting it on hold AGAIN just because i don't have a headset. I found one i'm getting for MY birthday present to me *Sigh....*

wow...6 days...can't believe that shit. I can actually hear the "Happy happy, joy joy" song in my head oO - if that don't take ya back to the early 90s, i dunno what will! If i got the song stuck in your head - i did my part :)

So, yea, i guess this week, i should make up for the month and some i've been gone. Think of me with no mic/headset as a way of...."Testing my signal" - fuck...if Rock 105.3 can do it here, i can get away with it til middle of the month! :P

So, you're prob'ly wondering something, right? "Why the Fuck is there a Zune logo in your post, Tox?" Well, the answer is quite simple! I've been toying around with the software. Why the hell would i do this? Cause, i have an Xbox 360 that just got overhauled with the NXE (Or, New Xbox Experience) - and, i was looking for a much easier, and better sounding way to stream my audio and video to my 360. And, i have found the trick! I gotta keep toying with it though, but, have found a new kind of "Medium" for the podcast....and, here it is!

With Version 3.0 of the Software (Go get it, if ya don't have it from HERE) and, you'll find out how useful it is - even if ya don't have a Zune...but, happen to have a 360, and you're using the crappy Windows Media Centre Extender to stream. This is just so much better. The only thing that lacks....the assortment of movies with different Codecs. Why the hell can't they just support .Avi streaming already! I'm getting sick and tired of all this damn conversion!

Once ya get over that though - this is the neat thing!

You can use Zune software to Subscribe to and playback podcasts - and, then since they're added in your collection, and ya set up Xbox Sharing mode - EVERYTHING! Will stream from your PC, and show up in your Xbox dashboard! So, in theory, you could listen to Toxic TuneZ right from your Xbox if ya wanted to, when ya subscribe to it!

The Quality is AMAZING! Both Video and Audio podcasts that ya subscribe to in the Zune software, when streamed to the 360...it's absolutely mind-blowing! I can't believe the quality! Even better than some of the movies or, show downloads on the marketplace!

So, go check it out! And, if you use Zune Software - you can actually go right into it, select Podcasts and then, basically push the "Add A Podcast" button, and paste this right in there: http://feeds.feedburner.com/toxiccast and it'll download all the episodes, and add them to your collection!

Next time you hook up your 360, it'll sync from the comp, to the console - and, you can put me in "Party mode" with the full screen Visualizations! It's like Pot - for your eyes! lol.

Nico - we KNOW you can dance! Congrats!

Posted by ToxicDoom | Monday, December 08, 2008 | , ,

Nico Archambault, the 24-year-old contemporary and hip-hop dancer from Montreal, Que., has been crowned Canada's very first favourite dancer.

"It's too much," he said the moment he found out. He immediately hugged host Leah Miller. "I'm so proud of you," she said, adding, "You deserve this."

He was nearly speechless backstage. "It just feels like a big exhalation," he said, beaming. "I can't find the words in English to describe this feeling. I am just so happy that I was able to stay until the end," he said with poise and emotion.

From his audition in Montreal, Que., Nico was a contender in the competition, impressing judges and audiences alike with his technically strong movement and passionate performances.

Throughout the competition, the judges commented on Nico's versatility, stage presence and artistry.

"You're the perfect partner," Luther said to Nico earlier in the season.

Special guest judge, Kenny Ortega added to Luther's praise: "You're the reason guys dance. You bring great masculinity and truth."

Not only, does Nico now carry the title of Canada's first favourite dancer, he will also receive the prize of $100,000 and a silver Mercedes C230.

Second place winner, Allie Bertram, 18, Calgary, Alta., was thrilled about Nico's win, "I'm just so proud of Nico. He's been so amazing since the beginning and he hasn't had a bad week. He totally deserves it!"

Allie was ecstatic after the show. "I can't believe I'm Canada's top female dancer. It's just thrilling," she said.

Miles Faber, 21, from Calgary, Alta., and Natalli Reznik, 29, from Toronto, Ont., were third and fourth, respectively.

Back! And, Sean Avery should go find a hole

Posted by ToxicDoom | Wednesday, December 03, 2008 |

Geeze, i go away for a few days, and come back to DRAMA! Well...sorta lol. It was reported on Tuesday that Sean Avery actually commented about his breakup from Canadian hottie, Elisha Cuthbert. I'm not gonna post all the info about it...because, chances are you've read it. However, if ya haven't, you can actually go Here and read all about it! If ya need proof that what i'm about to say here about Sean is Bad...look to the right :) Plus - i have to stick up for Canada!

I've always disliked Shawn - from his L.A. Kings days, to his more recent stint with the Rangers. Now, as of the start of the 08-09 NHL season, he's managed to...snake his way in to Dallas territory. I LOVE the Stars (Them, and the Oilers) - but, when ya take an asshole on board - one that wouldn't even shake the hands of Marty Brodeur last season after the Devils kicked the Rangers outta the series...that's just bloody sad.

Now, with the news that came out after the Flames/Stars game - Avery went as far to calling Cuthbert "Sloppy seconds". Granted, it was kind of...hidden to a point...but, ya still don't say that! Here's the full quote "I just want to comment on how it's become like a common thing in the NHL for guys to fall in love with my sloppy seconds. I don't know what that's about."

Geeze, can ya really blame this hot chick - who's too good for ya in the first place - for dumping your sorry ass? And, sloppy seconds? Yea...rightttt. The audacity of you to think you were her "First" is just...what's the word? Pitiful? Not saying she's some kind of whore - i'm just saying that she was with other guys before you...and, to think that you're something "better" is just way too.....fuckin concieted.

Sean - come on! To think you're sooooo much better than Dion Phaneuf is something i can't comprehend. You've had a long list of chicks who are more than "Sloppy seconds" - and, you're prob'ly sloppy sixths. In my books, Elisha doesn't apply as sloppy seconds.

So, next time ya start runnin' your mouth - think before ya speak buddy. You're not "Clean" - nor will ya ever be! And, to the next lady who comes after ya - remember his list of chicks...and, remember to get checked! :)

Just thought i'd do my PSA at the end there. And they say i don't care oO

Oh yea, and here's the video from TSN - it's about 2:15 long, and includes some commentary. They can do a better job than i can lol.

Hey guys! Just a quick update, cause i dunno how much longer i have in silence lol. It's been a drama filled couple of days here - some people could prob'ly just imagine what's goin' on! But, this isn't the place to talk about it...i might do an entry on the personal blog...but, that's not a "for sure" thing.

The podcast has been put on indefinate hiatus until further notice. I've got a TON of things to worry about right now, and, unfortunately - that doesn't include the podcast. I'm hoping things will calm down here in the next week....one can only hope. I don't like to do this, but when this shit happens...i have to decide what's important offline first, and worry about them first. I wish things were different, but, the fact of the matter is that it's a little worse than i first thought. Kelly (stepmom) isn't here...and, that's how ya know it got bad!

So - i dunno how long i'll be away from the comp - but, i know i have to be up in 7 hours, at 10am...to help out with dispatching for the delivery company tomorrow...and, i dunno how long i'll have to do that for.

I will find a chance to post about how it's coming along, and how things are going...eventually. And, if ya know the personal blog's addy - check in there too if ya wanna go deeper.

Hopefully this is done by next weekend - i'll be hoping! And, i'll be sure to fill ya all in on how things are comin' along! Don't think i've left, cause, i haven't - and NEVER WILL!!!

Feel free to leave me a message - on myspace, or by email - i'll keep ya all in the loop!

A Look at Zimbra Desktop Beta

Posted by ToxicDoom | Friday, November 28, 2008 |

After seeing this on download.com - i decided it would be fun to download this, and give it a test drive! I'm almost all over Beta's (Even Alpha's for that matter.) It gives me a chance to see things that most people won't even touch until after it goes live - or, at least out of beta. I've beta'd many things - Most notably Digsby and Windows Vista - among other things. But, enough about the "bragging" - let's take a look at a new email client, Zimbra Desktop!

When I found it - i was surprised to learn it's actually from Yahoo. Weird. Why? It's weird to think of them moving into the "Desktop Email Clients" that have cluttered us (For lack of a better word) Some work better than others - while some just suck (Incredimail, i'm talking about you!) I've tried 'em ALL! Windows Mail that ships with Vista, which i'm still using right now. Windows Live Mail - the desktop version...which includes the stable and beta...to the Open source clients, like Thunderbird. Thunderbird works best in my opinion, but, after awhile - it seems like my email setup hates me! Either that, or Microsoft has found a new way to keep people using their products....

Whoa! Talk about conspiracy nut! I will give Microsoft credit - they're trying to break away from the horrid days of Outlook Express - but, that will still linger - especially with all the people still using XP who don't want to make a switch to Live Mail. OE's bigger brother is great on the other hand - it's just the small brother i have complaints about.

Anyways - more on to Zimbra now!

I came across a site that had broke the news that Yahoo! had spent $350 Million for Zimbra. So, at least they're trying. The setup of Zimbra is also very easy - and very clean. Kinda...Java-y (I know that's not a word! Sue me! HA HA!) For an open source email client right now - it's going really well! I think the only drawback right now is setting up Hotmail to use Zimbra. It's a little complicated - as in....prob'ly not happening. This will only work with Microsoft Live Hotmail Plus accounts. Some free accounts that still support Outlook Express may also be used. And, even to that extent - you have to fiddle around in your Live Mail account (mail.live.com) - and set it up to allow client access. Not hard for some - difficult for many! I tried to set it up...couldn't...went and looked for help...came across that Live is MAPI...and, is currently not supported. If i'm mistaken, let me know! For now though - i can live without it!

On the plus side - it does allow many other webmail accounts to be used. GMail, Yahoo!, Zimbra, AOL, IMAP accounts - and of course, POP access from your ISP! Many people won't even want to set up Gmail accounts - as Google finally made the Themes available to all of it's users (Well, if it's not there Yet, it will be soon!)

Once you're done with the setup process, and you get to your email - it actually looks like a full fledged web based email program. Prob'ly because it is built on AJAX (AKA: Web 2.0) - and, again, is very open source.

Moving around in the program is quite easy. It has to be. But, the one thing i find it lacks is the ability to see what's happening in all the accounts. At least, i can't figure it out. Maybe if i spent more than a few hours looking around, i might find it :)

All the features are there though! It's really amazing! A contact list is in there, a calendar is in there...search features are implemented if ya go to the "Advanced" button...and, there's a new thing called "Zimlets" - which are basically applets or Widgets. You can import maps into email - as well as pictures from Flickr, and you can even go local!

This is really a must for ya to check out if you're looking for an email client as an alternative to Mozilla and Windows. I know it's still in beta - but, become active in the community! It's open source - and the best things are Open! I will be definately leaving it on here for awhile to learn my way around it a little bit - and, to take a break from Windows Mail. We'll see if it can handle what i can throw at it - that's the ultimate test right there!

If you're interested in checkin' it out, and downloading it - Go HERE! Check out the screenshots, and see if it fits in your life. Only you know what's best for ya - i only report on it :)

Call me a liar

Posted by ToxicDoom | Friday, November 28, 2008 |

Here I am again....on a Friday night. The day before the new episode goes out - and, yet again, i'm still mic'less. Some stupid bills came up that i had to pay for, and again, i won't be able to get a mic until...well...whenever it is i get paid next.

I really do wish that people would start to use the "Donate Now" paypal button - but, that's fine. I'm not gonna beg and plead with ya guys to do that, because, i don't do this to get paid! But - it would come in handy for the small things, ya know?

Anyways - there WILL be a new show this weekend. Don't fret! But, unless i get that headset from my friend (Which i doubt) - it'll be mic'less again. Sorry guys! I don't like to do the show without a mic - but, the show must go on, right?

And - i have come to a conclussion about the type of show it'll be - there will be 2 episodes this week! Kind of a "Make up" because i haven't done a show in about 2 weeks. Here's the 411 on the 2 new shows!

Episode 109: Will be a "Full album" debut - a first for the podcast in it's 2 year run! I am very pleased to announce that Crystal Sunshine's new album, "Nephilim Blood" will be played in it's entirety! So, don't forget to check her out, and to buy the CD if ya can't get enough of it! I know I can't! I'll do a full write up about where ya can get the CD, and how to purchase it tomorrow when the show goes live!

Episode 110: Will feature the new music added in the last month! Bands include FemBots, Hayden. Deborah Cox, Basia Bulat, Celldweller, East Village Opera Company - among many others! Also, Some of Nickelback's new CD, "Dark Horse" will be featured! Not just the songs covered on the radio as single's! No, we'll delve much deeper - and leave a taste of Something in your mouth! (Gotta love wordplay, eh? :D)

Both playlists are being edited in iTunes tonight! Even though i don't have to do much for Crystal's CD - episode 110 will be hard hitting! So, expect both episodes tomorrow night - basically one after the other! You're gonna love it!

Posted by ToxicDoom | Thursday, November 27, 2008 |

Thought i'd take the time this morning...seeing as how i'm still freakin' up (How i hate being sick...again...let me count the ways! That could take all day, so, i'll spare ya!)

Anyways - to my neighbours to the South - have a wonderful turkey day today, and an awesome long weekend! May ya enjoy the wonderful game of football tomorrow...which kicks off the start of the NFL Network's Thursday coverage if i'm not mistaken.

I however, won't be taking a break this weekend...even if i'm still sick! I'm getting the new headset this afternoon, and am looking forward to using it! Also, there's new music this week - i'll do a post about that later on though!

December 1 is World AIDS day

Posted by ToxicDoom | Tuesday, November 25, 2008 |

Nearly half of all AIDS cases in the U.S. involve people 13 to 24 years of age, placing many of BlogCatalog members or their children in the highest risk age groups. More than 250,000 are estimated to be HIV positive and not know it. And more than 1 million are estimated to have AIDS.

Of course, AIDS is not limited to the U.S. There are an estimated 33 million people with AIDS worldwide. It affects every country, city, and town in the world. And, the most frightening thing about it is that is going largely unchecked. In fact, that is one of the reason that worldaidscampaign.org is continuing its "leadership" theme, which it developed after learning that many leaders who promised to support AIDS were not keeping their promises.

HIV/AIDS has been a global epidemic for more than 27 years. Most of today's youth have never known a world without it. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently published national HIV incidence (new infections) that showed much higher numbers that previous estimates. The time is now. Together, we can prevent the spread of this pandemic – through awareness, care, prevention, education and research.
“HIV/AIDS has now become a pandemic that has literally put the world at risk, affecting diverse populations in different ways”. –Dr. Nora Volkow, NIDA Director

On December 1st, individuals and organizations will recognize World AIDS Day. This year’s theme is leadership – from all sectors, including government, but also leaders among individuals and families, communities, non-profits and other organizations. The question is not should you participate, but how can you? Both NIDA and AIDS.gov recognize the leadership of Bloggers Unite and invite bloggers to join them in their mission to prevent and stop the spread of HIV/AIDS.

As always, what you choose to write about is up to you. However, you might consider checking the NIDA and AIDS.gov research and prevention resources on the Bloggers Unite resource page. Or, for a more global view, check out http://www.worldaidscampaign.org

Unlike most campaigns where we hope awareness led to action, this is one campaign where awareness is action! If even just 10 percent of our members get involved, we can reach an estimated 4 million blog readers. And if half of our members participate, we can reach 20 million. And if all bloggers participate, we can reach the entire world. But more importantly than all that. If your post just touches even one person and convinces them to get tested or helps someone learn about AIDS prevention, won't that will be worth it? Your words, voices, videos, and actions can all help people become more aware about AIDS and how to prevent it. And by doing that, you might not only save someone, but save someone close to you.

Out of Hibernation! Sorta.....lol

Posted by ToxicDoom | Monday, November 24, 2008 |

I bet you guys are all wondering where i've been for the past...week and some. I'm here to make the announcement public now, as you guys need to know!

First off, no, i'm not on some kind of hiatus. Not like i'm "taking off" anytime soon. You guys are stuck with me! HA HA! I'm actually on round 2 of being sick, and taking benylin and neo-citran (plus all the coffee i can handle!)

Secondly, i'm waiting to get a headset this week - which will come on Wednesday or Thursday night sometime. I'm starting to get bored of not being on the mic! Hell, that's why i got into "Radio" to begin with - so I could annoy people with my voice! Even though, i don't think it has the effect i was hoping for...cause, i've been told i have a "Hot Voice" - I don't think that's the case, but, whatever works, right? lol.

Now that we have that out of the way - on to some news for Monday! Yesterday, i was browsing Google, cause that's what i do when i'm bored...plus, i'm contemplating opening up a store! I came across a distribution in Canada for Independent labels - and their artists, called Distribution Select. I looked around the site a little bit, and came to find out that they're actually based in Montreal! How sweet is that?!? Anyways, they also have a mailing list that radio stations could get on - so, i applied. I'm waiting to hear back, but, i hope to hear good things!

I know i'm not a radio station - but, i'm a podcast who serves Canadian music, and independent music from around the globe. I've got a fan base of about 2,000 subscribers - and listeners (Don't let that "chicklet" fool ya!) I consider myself in radio - at least to a point! I just want the chance to work with more than 1 big label - and, a few minors. They serve about 170+ labels...that would come in handy!

Not only that - but, they also serve French based music as well! So, i'm hoping i get the chance to work with them as well, as i need more flavour on this podcast! About 99% of my stuff is english language - minus Rammstien. That's about the only non-english i have on the podcast! The reason i want more french stuff is because Canada has a deep heritage in French as well. We have 2 official languages up here, and i wanna reflect that!

Lastly....there will be an episode this week before i do get the mic - so, don't worry! I'm still contemplating what i'll include in it though. I'm pretty sure it'll be an Album exclusive - but, don't quote me on that! When i decide tonight, i'll do a post for tomorrow letting ya all know what it'll be!

Stamps win Grey Cup by 8

Posted by ToxicDoom | Sunday, November 23, 2008 |

Sandro DeAngelis kicked five field goals as the Calgary Stampeders won the Grey Cup with a back-and-forth 22-14 victory over the Montreal Alouettes before a packed Olympic Stadium on Sunday night.

Brett Ralph had the only touchdown for the Stampeders, who won the sixth Grey Cup in their history and the first since they beat Winnipeg in the same stadium in 2001.
Tailback Avon Cobourne scored Montreal's only touchdown and Damon Duval booted two field goals and a single as the Alouettes lost for the fifth time in six Grey Cup appearances since 2000. They failed in a bid to become the first team to win a Grey Cup on home turf since the B.C. Lions in 1994.

The Alouettes fate was sealed when quarterback Anthony Calvillo threw his second interception of the second half into the end zone midway through the fourth quarter, and Henry Burris responded by putting the Stampeders in position for a 50-yard placement by DeAngelis and an eight-point lead with 4:12 left to play. It was the longest field goal of the season for the Calgary kicker.

Calgary is now 6-6 in Grey Cup games while Montreal fell to 5-11. And it was the Stamps' first win in three tries against the Alouettes, after losses in 1948 and 1970. The crowd of 66,308 in the domed stadium were deafening as they rooted for the hometown Alouettes. It was the second largest crowd in Grey Cup history after the 68,318 that attended Montreal's win in the 1977 game, also at Olympic Stadium.

The Alouettes used some big plays and an interception to take a 13-10 halftime lead. Jamel Richardson, who had five receptions for 101 yards in the first half alone, made a catch over the middle, broke two tackles and romped 55 yards to set up Duval's 14-yard field goal 4:34 into the game. Burris led a 10-play drive to the Montreal 36 and DeAngelis tied the score with a 43-yard effort 1:12 into the second quarter.

But Burris, who completed his first 11 passes, mostly for short yardage, followed his first incomplete toss with a throw straight to Alouette middle linebacker Reggie Hunt for a turnover at the Montreal 51. Ben Cahoon made two catches as Montreal got to the 16, where Cobourne flew untouched up the middle for the game's first touchdown at 7:18.

A 42-yard punt return by Larry Taylor set up a 19-yard Duval field goal, but Calgary struck right back with an eight-play scoring drive, and Burris scrambled out of the pocket and found Ralph alone in the end zone from 20 yards with 44 seconds left in the half. Burris used his feet to move the ball early in the second half and took the ball to the Montreal five, but Demetris Summers dropped a sure TD pass and DeAngelis was forced to kick a 12-yard field goal to tie the game.

Duval then put his team up by a point with a punt single. Another Burris drive fell short as Nik Lewis missed a catchable ball in the end zone and DeAngelis hit a 21-yard field goal for a 16-14 Calgary lead on the final play of the third quarter.

Calvillo opened the fourth by throwing an interception to Calgary's Dwight Anderson, but despite a wild reception in which a Burris pass went off Ken-Yon Rambo's hand's into the arms of Lewis, they settled for another field goal, this one from 30 yards.

The Alouettes responded by marching down to the Calgary 20 before Shannon James intercepted Calvillo's pass in the end zone with seven minutes left. DeAngelis then put it away with his 50-yarder. Calvillo easily got the 14 career Grey Cup completions he needed to pass Doug Flutie's former record of 108. It was a best-on-best matchup.

The Stampeders led the West Divison at 13-5 while Montreal was tops in the East at 11-7. Both had losing 2007 seasons, with Calgary at 7-10-1 and Montreal 8-10, and both lost in division semifinals, but the two teams roared back this year under new first-year head coaches - John Hufnagel for the Stamps and Marc Trestman for the Als.

Calgary cornerback Brandon Browner, who injured an ankle last in the West Division final against British Columbia, was able to start. Rush end Mike Labinjo played despite suffering from a flu this week.

The Stamps sat out linebacker Matt Grootegoed, defensive back Keon Raymond, offensive lineman Antonio Hall and defensive lineman Pat MacDonald. Montreal scratched linebacker Dwayne Taylor, safety Keith Williams, tackle Dave Mudge and quarterback Brad Banks.

96th Annual Grey Cup!

Posted by ToxicDoom | Sunday, November 23, 2008 |

Well, it started at 4pm MT/6pm ET - and, it's gonna be a game to remember! Calgary Stampeeders Vs. the Montreal Alouettes. Who is everyone going for? I know who i'm rooting for, but, i'm not gonna say anything in case i jinx it! And, it's prob'ly not who everyone thinks!

About 3 minutes left in the first quarter - Montreal is up with a Field Goal, 3-0. I'm betting that things won't open up til maybe...the 2nd half in the 3rd quarter. That's about the time the Adrenaline starts pumping!

Theory of a Deadman will be rockin' the half-time show this year! How will they open? I think they'll play the first single from their new CD "Scars & Souveniers" - their first single being So Happy. They'll prob'ly go from there to do some stuff off their Self-titled debut - and, finish it off with Last Song - also from their self-titled! But, so many possibilities there lol.

Along with TOADM - Suzie McNeil and Andree Watters Will Be There! And, i've never heard of both of them before, so, it'll be a joy to see some more talent that i've never seen or heard from! But, thanks to Pepsi (And, Diet Pepsi might i add) - it'll be a unique experience. Last year, it was Lenny Kravitz rockin' out - before that...i can't remember lol. Hell, i can't remember EVERY year that i've been watchin' it. Even when Toronto made the cup!

Anyways guys - i'm gonna go watch it! I'll post some thoughts about the game after! With the help of TSN.ca as well - and, for those of you who aren't lucky enough to be watchin' it (It is being shown in the U.S market - and, a few others - including Australia, the U.K. And a few others - go watch it!) If ya can't watch it, at least keep up to date on this site: TSN.ca

Democracy NOW!

Posted by ToxicDoom | Saturday, November 22, 2008 |

I must be "Breaking rules" again...ya know what, screw it - it's my blog! HAHA! See how i win there? I'm gonna write a little bit about the new Guns N' Roses CD! I mean, how can i not after 14 years of patiently waiting for new stuff?

This album in 1 word - ROCKS! For a band to come back after 14 years (Nearly 15) - and to release such an amazing CD after that long. After all the problems with Axl and the other members, i'm glad to know that's all behind them now! And, this is amongst the first for them as well - they mix all kinds of genres together. Sure, it's the same hard rock we're used to - but, it's not so much "Hair band-ish" anymore! They have infused R&B, Rock, Operatic singing...all into a nice package!

The album does have 1 drawback however in my opinion. And, that's the opening track "Chinese Democracy" - the first single of the album, and the one that draws us all into getting it, yep! I'm sorry - but, when ya have to wait about 50 seconds for it to cut off the sound effects, and get into the music - riffs and all - that's a little much. It's about a minute and some in that Axl decides to pop in and make an appearence.

However - i get where the band is going. The CD tells a "Story" - and, it's all in the buildup, and the "come down." The tracks are in Perfect order for that! They know how to build up the anticipation, and keep ya wanting more!

"Better" - track 3 of the CD is amazing as well! It was actually on my repeat for 3 times in a row! It's got sick electric riffs, sick drumming - and, Axl's voice is amazing! It's Hook is catchy as well. I wish i could review better! lol.

"Street Of Dreams" - track 5 on the CD - do i hear Ozzy Osbourne on there as well? I'm not 100% sure on that, but, if it is - amazing! Bery November Rain-ish. Axl seems to be stretching his voice here - seems to be screaming it...but, then again, what's he not? This will likely be the last song at several high school proms next spring.

"If The World" - track Five - very R&B sounding! The beat kinda reminds me of all those 70's porn "Bow-chicka-bow-wow" ya hear about lol. Rose's vocals are front and centre on this one. "If the world would end today all the dreams we had would all just drift away," he sings. I know we're only on the fifth track, but, so far, themes of longing and regret seem to be tying the album together.

"This I Love" - tack Thirteen - Wow! Very operatic! It's like during the wedding in the November Rain video when his wife dies. Doesn't she fall on the wedding cake-knife. That's so sad. Fantastic solo in two parts, the second of which feels very orchestral.

Overall - this CD is a Must OWN! Go out and get it on Sunday when it's released - you will NOT be disappointed!

Music is my girlfriend

Posted by ToxicDoom | Thursday, November 20, 2008 |

Wow - have i been listening to tons of music lately, or what! I have come to love so many bands and artists - and, not just mainstream either! Hell, i don't have as many mainstream acts as i used to. I've gone and did a complete remodel of my hard drive, and - i actually think i love what i've done!

There's benefits that come to being in radio...Shutup, i know - it's just a podcast - but, when i work with labels and bands, it becomes so much more than just a podcast! Wow...did i just get off topic a little bit?

As i was saying....

The benefits that come to being in radio are this - i get advance copies of some of the mainstream acts out there! I got the advance on Nickelback's Dark Horse CD 2 weeks before it came out. I know, it was prob'ly available for download - but, i barely download anymore...and, what i do, it's just TV shows that i miss when i'm out and about. I do buy music still - maybe not many on CD's anymore, but, iTunes wise. Why iTunes? Cause, it's convenient. It's open 24-7 - so, i don't really have to "pirate" stuff anymore. Sucks living on a credit card though lol. If they were smart, they'd build PayPal support in the Canadian store as well - just like the American store!

I also got my hands on Britney's new CD too...Circus. I gotta say - i've been a fan of her's from the start. She seemed to "Lose it" - somewhat - on her previous adventure, Blackout - but, i knew why. It was obvious to everyone. I'm glad to say that she's back now - and, seems to have "Found it" again! I know what she's goin' through, as, i'm just getting slowly better myself. It takes a LOT of work! Especially when you're in the damn public eye growing up - i couldn't imagine putting myself in her shoes.

Seems like some record companies are getting it though - that they can't keep putting out stupid shit just cause it's the "it" thing of the moment. I blame Disney for all that crap! Not saying Miley's bad or anything - but, damn. And, let's not forget all these bands that go on hiatus' - AC/DC *cough*...Metallica...When they each released their new stuff this year, i thought "Oh boy - this is gonna suck!" - but, noooo. They never lost it! Both releases by AC/DC and Metallica ROCK!

I've been spending a lot more time in the Canadian music scene of things though. And, if you're not Canadian, and wanna start experiencing some other bands that haven't quite "Crossed borders" yet - there's no better time! Mobile is one of them...and, their new CD blew me outta the water lastnight when i got my hands on it! There's TONS of stuff i could get into - but, i can't list them all...it's just too damn good!

Off that topic for a bit....there will be a new show this week! I'm sorry for not being able to do one last week....but, with the drama that's been goin' on here - my god...i swear, i could start filming a better Canadian soap opera lol. Screw Degrassi! oO

I'm still deciding what i wanna do though. I'm in a toss up between playing Crystal Sunshine's New CD...Seven Mile Ride or Patrizia's EP's....so much to think about! I'm even deciding if i wanna do a show playing my artist of the month - because, i have yet to do 1 this year lol. Chances are, i'll come to a conclussion tomorrow - and post about it then letting ya guys know!

Lastly - i've opened up the comments now! That's right - EVERYONE Can Comment! The only thing that i did is add a word verification. I mean, if i'm gonna open up the comments for everyone to use, i have to take that one extra step to prevent stupid spammers! I got sick of it on EFx2...and Modblog - i don't wanna experience it over here like i did in those 2 places! So, if ya don't mind doing a word verification....feel free to comment!

MTV Says Goodbye to 'TRL'

Posted by ToxicDoom | Tuesday, November 18, 2008 |

Fans and several artist superstars said good bye to MTV's long-running music video countdown on Sunday (November 16) that made the careers of artists like 50 Cent, Beyonce, Good Charlotte and Eminem.

During the "TRL" finale, the show's original host, Carson Daly, chatted with Eminem, Beyonce performed, and 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, Nelly, Diddy, and others all made appearances, while fans flocked to Times Square to bid farewell to the pop culture phenomenon known as Total Request Live and watch MTV pull the plug on one of its most influential music franchises.

"I feel like they're kinda tearin' down my home," Eminem said via phone, during an interview with Daly.

"It's a bittersweet moment," Diddy, the show's most frequent guest, said as he cried mock tears from "TRL's" glass-encased studios above Times Square.

"It's a big loss, not having this as a platform to promote our music," 50 Cent also said of the show's end.

Beyonce opened the show with her brand new singles, "If I Were A Boy" and "Single Ladies," but also treated fans to one of her most successful "TRL" songs, "Crazy in Love." 50 Cent performed his smash "In Da Club," and his current hit, "Get Up."

While celebs known that it's the end of an era -- including Daily who said it was "a sad moment" -- fans outside the studios were also nostalgic about "TRL's" finale.

One group of girl's spoke with MTV and revealed that they had driven all the way from San Diego, California to be a part of "TRL's" end. Although they didn't make it up to the studio, they said the trek was worth all the trouble.

"It was an unforgettable moment," one girl told MTV News.

Their enthusiasm comes even though they drove through thunderstorms on a 42-hour drive, and then waited for 10 hours just to be in Times Square for the finale. "We came at, like, 6 in the morning, and no one was here, and then we came back at 1 [p.m.]. It was crazy!" the girls said. "We started crying, 'cause we didn't think we could get in."

They didn't get it, but said, "We were just happy to be here in New York City."

At around 11 p.m. on the east coast, "TRL" came to a close. Daly and most recent host Damien Fahey -- with fans, friends, and celebs surrounding him -- lifted their glasses of champagne, and thanked everyone who's ever appeared or worked on the show for its 10-yea run, then turned to the camera with his glass high in the air, asking: "Why are we stopping this show?"

The Birthday Massacre - Australia Update

Posted by ToxicDoom | Monday, November 17, 2008 |

We're pretty excited about our first tour in Australia. Easily the furthest away from home we've been yet...and playing for people who've we've talked to online, but never seen in person. All new audience. I guess we'll have to make an impression.
And..Just as the weather is starting to turn cold up here in Toronto, we are heading south. Good timing.

Rehearsals have been going well...we're working pretty hard getting ready for the tour. These will be the longest sets we've played so far..and might include material we haven't played live before. There's still have more rehearsals to go, packing, gear checking...and I still haven't found a can of kangaroo repellent.

Only four shows..and who knows when we'll get a chance to come back (it's pretty far from Toronto, heh!). Heck yes, I am looking forward to it.

Who's Going? ...and can you help spread the word?

See you soon...

Music Magazines - meet your Maker, Idiomag!

Posted by ToxicDoom | Saturday, November 15, 2008 |

So i happened to come across a site yesterday, and it's really cool - i had to add a blog article about it! Here's the lowdown about possible one of the best music websites around - other than Last.FM

Idiomag is a UK-based website founded in 2006 by two Warwick Business School graduates, Andrew Davies and Ed Barrow, that provides digital music content to its users, in the form of a daily personalised music magazine. This magazine is viewed through the user’s browser, using the Adobe Flash Player, and can contain the full spectrum of text, images, and video. The user can then find concert dates, download music, and buy tickets.

The site also provides a widget, allowing the user’s magazine to be delivered on popular social networks such as Facebook, MySpace, and Bebo, or on individual blogs. The site aggregates content from a range of sources, both from the mainstream music press and the blogosphere, like a “glossy RSS feed”. Content is selected based on the user’s listening history, either manually entered or drawn from music sites such as Last.fm, Pandora, and iLike.

The site currently identifies around 30,000 unique users per month, from more than 18 countries and is ranked 200,783rd in web traffic by Alexa Internet. Advertising space is assigned within the magazine itself, rather than using banner ads or popups.
